Ο Τρόπος Να Τη Θυμάσαι

Πάρε μόνο αυτό, το χέρι, το λουλούδι
Μες στο χέρι της, φαντάσου, μην κοιτάς,
Τα μάτια της, τα χείλη της, πες το απόλαυση—
                  Και κάψε τ' όνομα του.

Διώξε τους λόγους απ' τα χείλη σου
Και πού οδηγούνε, χείλη, μάτια,
Στο τέλος το λουλούδι μέσα στο χέρι πάντα—
                 Και κάψε τ' όνομά του.

Και βγάλε απ' ό,τι η φωνή σου εννοεί
Τη λέξη που σου λέει ή τις σκέψεις που
Ξυπνά, ξεκίνημα, τέλος, ξανά—
                 Και κάψε τ' όνομά του.

            —Ή κάψε αυτό το χέρι, χείλη,
Μάτια, το λουλούδι, όλα, εκτός
Από τη γνώση, τον πόθο που σκοτώνει
Κ' αφήνει το καιόμενο όνομά του.

The Way to Remember Her

Take only this, the hand, the flower
In her hand, imagine, do not look,
Her eyes, her lips, call that delight—
           And burn the name of it.

Dispel the reasons from your lips
And what it comes to, lips, and eyes,
The held flower always in the end—
           And burn the name of it.

And tear from what your voice intends
The word it tells you or the thought
Reminds, beginning, end, again—
           And burn the name of it.

           —Or burn that hand, the lips,
The eyes, the flower, all, all save
The knowledge, the desire that kills
And leaves the burning name of it.
